Expiration date tracking (PVPS)

ClientIn production

An expiration date tracking system for a regional supermarket, with batches, alerts, and the first-expired, first-out rule.

Context

In a supermarket, an expired product on the shelf is a loss twice over: the loss itself, and the shopper’s trust. This system was built for a regional supermarket to control the shelf life of what it sells.

Challenge

Knowing, every day, what expires first and where it is, without relying on anyone’s memory — with a system that fits the store’s routine: barcode scanning, use on a phone, and reporting for management.

Solution

  • First expired, first out. Each entry becomes a batch with its own date, and the system orders removal by expiration date, not by arrival order.
  • Alerts before the problem happens, with an audit trail of who registered and cleared each batch.
  • Barcode scanning for EAN-13 and GS1 directly in the phone’s browser, and installation as an app, with no app store.
  • Spreadsheet import and Excel and PDF reports for management.

Result

The system is in production at the market. The first version was built between April 21 and 23, 2026, and the second, between June 21 and 23.
